Entity titleNatural Disaster Action CommitteeEntity identifier108Entity typeAgencyDate range1973 - 1985DescriptionThe Natural Disaster Action Committee was established following a public meeting called by Corio Shire President Mr C. J. Deppeler in July 1973 following approaches by ratepayers. The committee was formed 'to take action to get reasonable insurance cover for future natural disasters, a better deal for the victims and a responsible approach and legislation by those concerned in property sale and purchases'.*
The committee monitored developments in disaster management both in Australia and overseas and lobbied state and local politicians in pursuit of its aims.
A clause in the committee's constitution states that the committee would be wound up when its aims had been achieved or at an Annual General Meeting. Records in this collection are those of the honorary Secretary Mrs E. R. Dalitz. Although they span the date range 1973-85 there is no record of the dissolution of the committee. Circumstances of transfer of the collection to the Chisholm Library are unknown although it seems probable that it was arranged by the Vice-President of NDAC Mr Ian Murray who was also involved with the Caulfield Institute of Technology Centre for Information and Research on Disasters and Natural Hazards (established in 1978).
