Departments established subsequently included Geography (1963), Anthropology (1964), Classical Studies and Music (1964), Visual Arts (1975), Librarianship (1976), Social Work (1977), and Politics (formerly part of the Faculty of Economics and Politics, 1993).
Following amalgamations in the early 1990s the faculty was restructured in 1998/99 to form ten Schools spread across four campuses, i.e.. Asian Languages and Cultures; European Languages and Cultures; Geography and Environmental Science; Historical and Gender Studies; Humanities and Communications; Literary, Visual and Cultural Studies; Performance Studies; Philosophy, Linguistics and Bioethics; Political and Social Inquiry; and Public Policy.
Professor W. A. G. Scott, who was appointed foundation Professor of English on 1 August 1960, took up the position of foundation Dean of the Faculty in February 1961.
