Its terms of reference included concern for university research policy, research management and monitoring, and the allocation of research monies. It was to identify alternative sources for research funding, encourage applications for research funding and establish a sub-committee to recommend allocation of graduate scholarships and research grants. The committee was also concerned with the utilization of teaching and research space within the university.
The Research Committee reported directly to the Academic Board and was dissolved after its last meeting on 25 October 1990. In 1991 it was replaced by the Vice-Chancellor's Research Advisory Committee (MON240) and the Committee of Associate Deans Research (CADRES) (MON162).
