In 1978, the (Monash) Overseas Students Service (MOSS) was set up as a portfolio of Monash Association of Students. Towards the end of 1988, the Union Board designated that MOSS would become a body whose constitution would be approved by the Union Board. In 1992 MOSS became known as the Monash University International Students Service (MUISS) and in 1995, MUISS became a division of the Monash Students Association (MSA). MUISS is based on the Clayton campus.
In carrying out its functions, MUISS relies upon the cooperation of external organisations like OSCAFF (Overseas Students Campaign Against Full Fees), NUS (National Union of Students), NLC (National Liaison Committee) and NOSCA (Network of Overseas Students Collective in Australia). MUISS also works closely with other Monash departments and organisations including Clubs and Societies and Community Services.
