Entity titleBookshop BoardEntity identifier169Entity typeAgencyDate range1969 - 2003DescriptionThe University Bookshop was established in 1965 and was managed with the assistance of a small advisory committee. A board of management was established by the Vice-Chancellor in 1969 to formulate broad policy with the advice of the Manager who was responsible for the day to day running of the bookshop. The board reported directly to the Vice-Chancellor and periodically reported through the Finance Committee to Council.
On the recommendation of the Bookshop Enquiry Committee the board was made a standing committee of Council in November 1976. Its role would be to exercise a general superintendence and control over the management, administration and policies of the bookshop, including: making recommendations concerning the appointment of senior staff; arranging for the preparation and submission to Council of an annual budget with the aim of ensuring that the Bookshop remains self-supporting while providing a service appropriate for a university at a minimum cost to its customers; fostering cooperation between the Bookshop and persons and bodies within and outside the university; and making recommendations on future policies and developments of the Bookshop. The Chairman is appointed by Council.
The reporting line for the Bookshop Board changed to the general Manager in November 1997.
Monash Bookshop was absorbed by Monyx in 2003. http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/records-archives/archives/memo-archive/memo03/20030730/monyx.html
