Entity titlePatents CommitteeEntity identifier206Entity typeAgencyDate range1963 - 1994DescriptionThe Patents Committee was established by Council at meeting 5/63, to consist of the Vice-Chancellor and four Council members, its terms of reference to advise the Vice-Chancellor on all matters concerning patents. The first recorded minutes of the committee are those for a meeting held in July 1966. In its early years the committee (in the words of its Secretary, Mr P. Baillie) led a "somewhat shadowy existence" with most decisions being taken by the Vice-Chancellor's delegate in consultation with those involved as required. In the following years the committee met and reported to Council more regularly. The university's rules on patents were set out in the University Calendar before being incorporated into the statutes in 1984.
The committee's final meeting was held in May 1994, before being disbanded in June. It was replaced by Intellectual Property Committee.
