The committee first met in May 1986 replacing the former Finance Committee and Buildings Committee. Its terms of reference were to "advise Council on development and maintenance of policy in relation to financial management of the institute; campus development; use of facilities; tendering and approval; and building design specifications".
In 1993 following full amalgamation with Monash the committee adopted a new charter which further included in its terms of reference advising the Campus Advisory Council on budgetary matters and purchases over $100,000, and to provide a forum for consideration of accounting summaries and investment of funds.
Gippsland Campus became part of Federation University in 2014.
