The committee was to be appointed annually and was composed of the Vice-Chancellor or his nominee; a Warden; the Chairman and two other members of the Halls of Residence Committee one of whom was to be a student; and a student counsellor. The composition, functions and powers of the Standing Committee were ratified by the Housing and Transport Committee and by Council in September 1970. After 1977 the committee made recommendations on appointments directly to the Vice-Chancellor.
The last meeting of the committee seems to have been in August 1989
