McIntyre, Archibald Keverall

Biography
Born in Edinburgh on 1 May 1913, Professor McIntyre was educated at Barker College and the University of Sydney where he gained the degrees of MBBS, Bachelor of Science & Doctor of Science. He saw service in the RAAF from 1941-46 and spent the next two years on research at the Rockefeller Institute, New York. In 1949 he took up an appointment in the department of physiology at the University of Otago, where he became Professor of Physiology in 1951 and remained until 1961 when he resigned to take up the appointment as Foundation Professor of Physiology at Monash University. Professor McIntyre was a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and published widely in medical, physiological and general scientific publications. He was the convenor of Monash University's Standing Committee on Experiments Involving Human Subjects and also served on the Readership Standing Committee and the Standing Committee on Education. In 1977 he was awarded the Mueller Medal at the ANZAAS Congress in Melbourne. On his retirement in December 1978 the title of Professor Emeritus was conferred upon him by Council. McIntyre died in 2002.

Chiefly accumulated during Prof. McIntyre's appointment at Monash and consisting of course information, lecture and seminar notes, and references arranged by course subjects. Also included are private papers and correspondence pre-dating the Monash appointment; correspondence and notes related to conferences, seminars and symposia attended after his retirement; references for colleagues and students; and records related to work on various ethics committees during the 1980s.
