Biography
Peter Fensham graduated BSc (1948) and MSc (1950) from the University of Melbourne, PhD (1953) from Bristol University and from Cambridge (1956). From 1953 to 1956 he was Nuffield Sociological Scholar at Kings College University of Cambridge. He subsequently spent ten years on the staff of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, before being appointed to the Chair of Education in the field of Science Education at Monash in 1967. Between then and 1977 he was Acting Dean, Associate Dean, and Head Area 5 Specific Curriculum Studies. In 1981 Fensham was appointed Dean of the Faculty, a position he retained until 1988. He was invited to become a member of the State Board of Education in 1982. On his retirement at the end of 1992 he was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor. He died in 2021 at the age of 93.
