Business Studies had previously been conducted by the School of General Studies. The new School was initially divided into two departments - Accounting and Secretarial Studies, and Marketing. Mr J. Miller took up his appointment as the first Head of School in April 1974. Degree studies were introduced in 1975. The school was renamed in 1978 and became a faculty in 1989. The faculty consisted of four schools (previously departments) - Accounting, Banking and Finance, Management, and Marketing.
The faculty continued in existence after amalgamation with Monash in 1990 with Professor Peter Chandler as its Dean. The faculty merged with the Clayton Faculty of Economics, Commerce and Management in 1993 to create the new Faculty of Business and Economics.
