With the founding of the Department of Visual Arts in 1974, a small Exhibition Gallery became available on the 7th floor of the Menzies building and a curator was appointed. The first exhibition was held in 1975 - 'Selected Painting from the Monash University Collection.' The Art Gallery was opened in 1986 in the Multi-purpose Building and in 1997 the name was changed to Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA). In mid 2010 the Museum relocated to the Caulfield Campus.
