The position of Vice-President (Administration) was created following the retirement of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Resources), Ms Crook in 2005. The responsibilities of this position were divided between two new positions - Vice-President (Finance) and Vice-President (Administration). The Vice-President (Administration) was responsible for Information Technology Services; Student Services; Facilities and Services; and the University Solicitors Office. Human Resources was added in 2006 and Residential Services and Monash Sport in 2008. The name was changed in 2013 to Chief Operating Officer & Senior Vice-President. As of 2015, the position is responsible for Marketing, Communications & Student Recruitment; Campus Community; Facilities & Services; Information Technology; Major Campuses & Student Engagement; Monash HR; Office of the University Solicitor and General Counsel; Student Services. The position was held by Peter Marshall until his retirement at the end of 2024. Simon Kupec was appointed Interim Chief Operating Officer in February 2025.
