Biography
Dr F. John Hunt was born on 19th April, 1924 and grew up in Western Australia where he completed his secondary education. He spent 4.5 years in the military from 1942 to 1946. Afterwards, he completed teacher training and his BA in English and Psychology (1951), B.Ed (1955), and M.Ed. (1962), all at the University of Western Australia. He was awarded a PhD in Education by Stanford University in California at the end of 1964. Dr Hunt was appointed Senior Lecturer in the then Department of Education at Monash in 1965, where he specialised in Sociology of Education and Comparative Education. During his time at Monash, he saw the faculty grow exponentially in staff, students, and courses. Dr Hunt retired at the end of 1989, but remained associated with the faculty during the 1990s as an examiner and exam supervisor. Dr Hunt died on 28 July 2017 (The Age).
