The department became part of the School of Literary, Visual & Performance Studies in 2000, which then became the School of English Communications & Performance Studies in 2006.
In 2012 the department became English and Comparative Literature, then Literary Studies in 2014 when it became part of the School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics. Literary Studies merged with Creative Writing in 2016 to become Literary Studies and Creative Writing.
