Wolfgang Sievers was born in 1913 in Berlin. He studied photography at the Contemporary School for Applied Arts from 1936-38. He photographed historic buildings in Berlin for books written by his father on German architect Karl Schinkel. He was conscripted as an aerial photographer for the Luftwaffe, but fled to England in June 1938. He arrived in Australia in August 1938. He served in the Australian Army from 1942-46. Sievers established a studio in South Yarra and later at Grosvenor Chambers in Collins Street, Melbourne. His major clients included Alcoa, Comalco, Hamersley Iron, Shell, John Holland Group, Bates, Smart & McCutcheon, Yuncken Freeman. He was engaged by the Department of Overseas Trade in 1956. His work was exhibited at the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW and the State Library of Victoria.
