SERIES DETAILS
Series identifierMON3Series titleAustralian Committee for Research correspondence and working papersSeries descriptionThe Australian Committee for Research was formed on 14 April 1976 as a loose organisation of researchers from all over Australia. Its role was to lobby support for increasing government funding after the government had reduced the level of funding for the Australian Research Grants Committee in 1975. Professor Westfold was the national convenor of the committee and there were convenors in other states to provide a focus for local action.
This series was created and maintained by Professor K. C. Westfold and consists of correspondence, working papers, notes of meetings, newspaper cuttings, and information on funding of research in Australia and other countries. It includes correspondence and documents leading up to the formation of the committee and documents on the related issue of funding for the National Health and Medical Research Council.
The committee was not formally disbanded but it became dormant after funding levels were increased and the AVCC Inter-University Committee for Research was established. There is correspondence up to 1982, but the major period of activity for the committee was in the years 1976 to 1979. The early contents date range results from newspaper cuttings on research activities in the early 1970s.Date range1970 - 1982Series typePersonal PapersLinear metreage0.18Extent (boxes)1Format, size, conditionfilesKeywordsPersonal Records
