In producing this document Monash was responding, along with 37 other universities, to a commonwealth government quality review initiative, the portfolio being a reference for the National Review Committee when visiting Monash. The Quality Portfolio provided information about Monash, including its mission statement, objectives in teaching and research, and future priorities. Volume 1 provided an overview, volume 2 a detailed analysis of the university.*

Documentation for the portfolio was supplied by faculties and administrative departments and is arranged by the relevant section of the portfolio, ie. Item 1 - The Monash Philosophy; Item 2 Teaching & Learning; Item 3 Research; Item 4 Community Service; Item 5 International; Item 6 Access & Opportunity; Item 7 Institutional Strengths. Lists of items or item parts are included within each file. These lists also give page references in volume 1 for each item in the series. The numbered appendices which make up Volume 2 of the Quality Portfolio are a summary form of the documentation contained within this series. Copies of volumes 1 and 2 of the Quality Portfolio have been inserted with the series.
