Series identifierMON1349Series titleStaff Committee minutesSeries descriptionThe Staff Committee was established by the Interim Council of Monash University at Meeting 6 on 8 December 1958. The committee was to consider staff requirements and staff appointments. The first positions to be considered were Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Librarian and four professors - one in each of Engineering, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
The Committee members at its establishment were Sir George Paton (Chairman), General A.H. Ramsay and Mr R.W. Cowan and Mr J.R.C. Taylor. As senior university appointments were made, the committee membership expanded to include the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar.
The signed master set of minutes from the first meeting of the Staff Committee held January 23 1959. Minutes for 1959-76 are in bound volumes, with some pages affixed with tape. Minutes for 1977-1984 are on A4 pages and have been removed from ring binders.
