The AGS provided reports to Australian and allied forces on topographic, geographic, hydrographic and anthropologic information on the South West Pacific Area (SWPA). The Special Reports in this collection contain general histories and military importance of specific areas, airfields, climate, communications, description of coastline, medical problems, population, ports and harbours, rivers and canals, roads and railroads and vegetation. In providing this intelligence to allied forces, the AGS assisted military strategy in the Pacific region throughout World War II.

A companion collection to the AGS Terrain Studies, this series features Special Reports produced by the Allied Geographical Section (AGS) between 1942 and 1945 under General Douglas MacArthur’s Headquarters. Designed specifically for military planning and operational staff, these reports provided targeted geographical intelligence to solve urgent, specific tactical problems across the South-West Pacific Area (SWPA), complete with detailed maps and localised analysis.
