Caulfield Technical School was officially opened in 1922 as a junior school designed to fill the maintenance requirements of horse drawn vehicles and equipment. The school was managed by its Principal Mr R. J. Dorey and the school Council presided over by Mr F. Groves, MLA and pioneer of the scheme for a school. The school catered for full-time junior students and held evening classes for wheelwrights and blacksmiths. Full-time diploma classes in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering were started in 1944.
In 1958 the Education Department conferred ‘College’ status on Caulfield Technical School and other technical schools carrying diploma and apprentice courses. Caulfield Technical School became Caulfield Technical College in 1958.
