In 1968 after the formal constitution of the VIC Council, the junior section of Caulfield Technical College was separated as a new Caulfield Technical School while the senior section was renamed Caulfield Institute of Technology affiliated with the newly formed VIC. Diploma courses were controlled by the VIC whereas the Institute was still responsible to the Education Department for Certificate, Technician and Trade courses. Mr A. E. Lambert continued as Principal until the appointment of the Institute’s first Director Mr H. Halstead in 1969. The governing body of the Institute continued to be the Council for which the Director acted as chief executive. By 1981 CIT had six schools in its Advanced Education division and four in its TAFE division. In March 1982 the TAFE division separated from the Advanced Education division to form Holmesglen College of TAFE. The same year CIT amalgamated with the State College of Victoria at Frankston.
