Entity titleCommittee of DeansEntity identifier4Entity typeAgencyDate range1962 - 2006DescriptionThe Committee of Deans was created as an advisory body to the Vice-Chancellor, its main function being to make preliminary determinations on annual budgets. Its first meeting was held in April 1962 but it was not until November 1969 that on advice of the Professorial Board, Statute 2.9 was created to give official recognition to the Committee and its functions. The role and character of the Committee have varied according to the needs of the Vice-Chancellors and it has at various times provided decisions on administrative and policy matters, made recommendations to the Professorial Board and Council on matters referred by them, and in its early years acted as a Disciplinary Committee.
In 2007 the Committee of Deans was replaced by a new Strategy and Resources Committee made up of Deans, Pro-Vice-Chancellors and members of the Vice-Chancellors Group.
