The proposed role of the Advisory Board was to advise the Standing Committee and Director of the Centre on matters of general policy concerning the nature and direction of the Centre's activities; to provide input to the Centre from a range of different disciplines and sections of the community on topics relevant to the work of the Centre; and to comment on proposals for research, for conferences or for other activities suggested by staff of the Centre. The Board's 27 members were appointed by the Professorial Board from medical, legal, technical and philosophical fields and they met for the first time in March 1986.
The Board met three times per year between 1986 and 1988. No meetings were held in 1989. In 1990 the Board and the Standing Committee were replaced by a small Board of Management which reports to the Board of the Faculty of Arts.
