Between 1965 and 1990, the agency known as Student Services was responsible for the majority of the functions now performed by Community Services, which became a separate agency in 1991. During 1991, an inaugural director was appointed for Community Services, which encompassed the Caulfield, Clayton and Frankston (now Peninsula) campuses. Prior to 1991, the individual campuses controlled their various services independently, but under the merger agreement it was decided that the various services should be centralised. In 1992, the management and transmission of child care moved from Equal Opportunity to Community Services and became known as Child and Family Services.
