Biography
David Goldsworthy was born on 13 September 1938, in Glenelg, South Australia. He obtained a BA from the University of Adelaide and a PhD in Politics from Oxford University in 1969. He was appointed to a lectureship at Monash in the department of Politics in 1965, was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1968, and Reader in 1976. As an internationally recognised scholar in the fields of African, Development, and International Politics, he was appointed to a personal Chair in 1995. The Politics department became part of the Faculty of Arts following institutional amalgamations in 1990. Goldsworthy was appointed Director of the Centre for International Relations in 1994, became Deputy Head of the department in 1995 and Head of department 1996-97. He retired at the end of 1999, and died on 30 July 2017 (The Age).
