Snedden appointed Dean for a term of three years. The faculty was created as a result of the merger between Monash and Chisholm Institute of Technology and consisted of the departments of Applied Psychology, Ceramic Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Police Studies, Social Work, and Welfare Studies; the schools of Art and Design, Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Nursing; and the Graduate Department of Librarianship, Archives and Records. The faculty was dissolved at the end of 1993 following a decision of Council in 1992. The academic components were absorbed into the faculties of Arts, Computing and Information Technology, Science and Medicine.
