Biography
John Miller was Chair of Pure Mathematics 1965-1989. He was born in 1928 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney, Master of Arts from Cambridge University, and PhD from the University of New England. He taught at St Peter's College, Adelaide (1953-54), and lectured at University of New England (1955-58). He was variously senior lecturer, sub-dean of the Faculty of Science, and reader at Canberra University College, which became part of Australian National University (1958, 1960-64). In 1962 he was awarded a Fulbright travel grant to be a research associate at Yale University. Under a Canadian Commonwealth Research Fellowship, he was a senior research fellow at Trent University (1969). He was a visiting research professor at the University of Waterloo (1974) He was a founding member of the Australian Mathematical Society in 1956. From 1977-79 he was Editor of the Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society. He was appointed Emeritus Professor in 1990.
