Biography
Shirley Sampson was born in Western Australia in July 1927. She obtained a BA (1948) and DipEd (1950) from the University of Western Australia, and a PhD (1979) from Monash University. Between 1954 and 1972 Sampson taught history at matriculation level in independent and government schools in Western Australia, Tasmania, Nigeria and Victoria. Between 1970 and 1972 she also lectured at Monash Teachers College. She was appointed Senior Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Education at Monash in 1972, Lecturer in 1973, and Senior Lecturer in 1982. Since 1992 Dr Sampson has worked as a Sessional Teacher and Examiner for the School of Graduate Studies (previously known as the Faculty of Education) at Monash University. She is the author of numerous articles on women and education in Australia.
