The committee held its first meeting in July 1974 with representatives from all faculties providing a means of two-way communication between the users and the Director. In 1979 an ad hoc committee was appointed by the Professorial Board to review HEARU and its operations. The Liaison Committee was judged to be ineffective and dissolved in 1980.
