Entity titleMembership Committee of CouncilEntity identifier178Entity typeAgencyDate range1997 - DescriptionPrior to 1986 ad hoc committees had been established by Council as the need arose, to consider and bring forward nominations for the filling of non-elected vacancies in the membership of Council. The last of those committees, the Membership Review Committee was established in 1983. In June 1986 that committee was reconstituted as the Membership Committee, a standing committee of Council which would "consider and bring forward nominations for the filling of designated non-elected vacancies in the membership of Council and to advise on any related matters referred to it by Council".
Following a review of Council's role and composition, a new Membership Committee was established at Council meeting 2/97. Its role was to recommend persons to membership of a 'reconstituted Council'; to implement procedures for assessment of performance of Council members; and to develop an induction program for new members. The committees first meeting was held in October 1997
