Entity titleMain Library Users' CommitteeEntity identifier208Entity typeAgencyDate range1966 - 2004DescriptionThe Main Library Users' Committee was constituted by the Professorial Board in 1966 to act in an advisory capacity to the University Librarian. The committee was to report to both the Professorial Board and the General Library Committee. The committee's terms of reference in 1994 were defined as: to advise the Librarian of the needs of users of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library and specifically the needs of users from those faculties whose activities are largely based at Clayton Campus. Membership was made up of the University Librarian and two other senior library staff, faculty representatives - Arts 5, Economics 3, Education 2, Law 1; one representative of Caulfield/Peninsula branch libraries; and a representative each from Monash Association of Students and Monash Postgraduate Association. Since the end of 1994 secretarial work for the committee (formerly provided by the Academic Secretariat) has been provided by the user faculties on a two year rotating basis.
From 1999, the six user committees of the Library were reduced to three, viz. the Library Advisory Committee for Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine; the Library Advisory Committee for Humanities and Social Sciences; and the Law Library Advisory Committee. These committees were disbanded in 2004. http://www.monash.edu/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/158048/annual-report-2004.pdf
