Biography
David Karoly was born in 1955. He graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Science (Hons), and from the University of Reading with a PhD. Between 1983 and 1995, he was Lecturer, Senior Lecturer & Reader in the Monash Department of Mathematics, and was also Acting Director (1993-94) and Director (1995-2000) of the CRC for Southern Hemisphere Meteorology. In 1984-85 Karoly was Visiting Scientist at the National Centre for Atmospheric Research, USA, and he became a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society in 1999, having won its Meisinger Award in 1993. Karoly also won the Norbert Gerbier-Mumm International Award from the World Meteorological Organization in 1998. At Monash, Karoly was Chair of Meteorology 2001-2002, before leaving to take up an appointment as Williams Chair and Professor of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma.
