Biography
Ailsa Zainuddin was born in Box Hill on 8 April 1927. She was educated at MLC before going on to do degrees in history (MA 1954) and education (BEd 1964) at the University of Melbourne. She later gained a PhD from Monash University (1983). Zainu'ddin was employed as a tutor at Melbourne University (1948-51) and research assistant at Canberra University College (1951-54) and was a Volunteer Graduate for Indonesia in 1954-55. She subsequently wrote scripts for Radio Australia's Indonesian Section (1956-60). From 1961-64 Zainu'ddin worked as a tutor and assistant lecturer in the Law School and Indonesian Studies Department at Melbourne University. She took up her first appointment as a Lecturer at Monash in January 1965, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in January 1970. Her main areas of interest and publication were Australian and Indonesian history; the history of education; and women's history. She died on 25 March 2019. Publications: Songs of Indonesia.
