The committee was formally constituted as a Standing Committee of the Professorial Board on 31 August 1966.
In June 1980, the terms of reference of the committee were expanded to "encompass the managerial and procedural practices that [the committee had] adopted". The main purpose of the committee was to formulate policy for the operation and management of the Computer Centre, to advise the University on matters relating to computers and their purchase, to advise the Committee of Deans (through the Professorial Board) on financial policy in relation to the Computer Centre, to assist the Director of the Computer Centre on policy and other matters and to act as the executive committee of the Computer Centre. The Computer Centre Committee is referred to in Statute 5.3 which took effect during 1983. The committee was disbanded in May 1989.
