Entity titleEqual Opportunity CommitteeEntity identifier287Entity typeAgencyDate range1990 - 2009DescriptionThe Equal Opportunity Advisory Committee was established as a Standing Committee of Council on the recommendation of the Equal Opportunity Working Party, in 1985. The first meeting was held in 1986 and the committee's terms of reference were to 'recommend equal opportunity policies and objectives, monitor the effectiveness of the programmes and report regularly to Council on progress in meeting programme objectives and legislative requirements'. Membership included student and staff union representatives.
In 1990, the Equal Opportunity Advisory Committee was disbanded and replaced with the Equal Opportunity Committee as a consequence of the merger with Chisholm and the establishment of Monash University College Gippsland. The new Equal Opportunity Committee included representatives from Caulfield and Frankston campuses and its terms of reference included monitoring policy and strategies regarding the provision and implementation of 'equal opportunity in education and employment, including the provision of equity planning and the fulfilment of affirmative action objectives'.
The committee was disestablished in December 2009 (Council 8/2009), after a review, and was replaced by the Senior Management Team (Social Inclusion). [Prof Sue Willis also appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor (Social Inclusion)]. The EO Committee's sub-committees became Management committees.
