The Pharmaceutical Society was founded in 1857 by "early immigrant British pharmacists to control & develop the professional aspects of pharmacy in the developing colony". The Victorian College of Pharmacy was established as a school of the Society in 1881, with the support of an annual government subsidy. This subsidy was discontinued in 1922 and the society continued to own and operate the College until the end of 1976 when it became an independent company. Pharmaceutical Society Secretaries F.
