Both Gippsland and Chisholm Institutes established courses (the Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing)), Gippsland through its School of Applied Sciences in 1986, and Chisholm through its School of Nursing in 1987. The Chisholm school relocated to a new building on the Frankston Campus in 1988. On the amalgamation of CIOT and Monash, the School became part of a newly established Faculty of Professional Studies, with the name Caroline Chisholm School of Nursing. The diploma of Applied Science (Nursing) continued to be offered through the School of Health Sciences, following GIAEs affiliation with Monash in 1990. In 1993, Monash University College Gippsland was integrated fully into the academic structure of the university and a Sub-Faculty of Nursing was established within the Faculty of Medicine to encompass the Caroline Chisholm School at Peninsula Campus, the School of Health Sciences at Gippsland and the Centre for Graduate Studies in Clinical Nursing. Following a major review in 1996, the Sub-Faculty, the School of Health Sciences and the Caroline Chisholm School of Nursing were replaced by a single School of Nursing whose head is located primarily at Gippsland, but runs courses on both Gippsland and Peninsula campuses. The name was changed to School of Nursing and Midwifery in 2004. In 2009 courses were run at Gippsland, Peninsula and Clayton with Berwick added in 2011 and Gippsland removed in 2014.
