John Crossley was born in Yorkshire, England, and obtained a BA and PhD in Mathematics from Oxford University, where he also had an appointment as Lecturer in Mathematical Logic. Professor Crossley took up the chair of Pure Mathematics at Monash University in 1969, where he remained until 2006. His principal research interests were in theoretical computer science, mathematical logic, and the history of mathematics. The title of Emeritus Professor was conferred on Professor Crossley in 2007.
