Biography
Clive Probyn was born in the United Kingdom in 1944. He graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BA (1965) and PhD (1968). He graduated from the University of Virginia with a MA (1966). He was a Fulbright Travel Scholar in 1965-66. He taught at the University of Nottingham, the University of Lancaster and at the University of Sokoto in Nigeria before being invited to Monash as a visiting professor in 1981. He was appointed to the Chair of English in 1982. In 1988 he was a visiting professor at the University of Virginia. He was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 1992. He was appointed Head of the School of Literary, Visual & Cultural Studies in 2000. He retired in 2009 and in 2010 was appointed Emeritus Professor.
