Professor Schofield continued as Chairman until 1977, when he became Dean of Medicine, and was replaced in 1978 by Professor David de Kretser. The department was renamed Anatomy and Cell Biology in 2000, and became part of the School of Biological Sciences in 2001. In 2009 the department was again renamed, Anatomy and Developmental Biology.
