Biography
Born 15 February 1939, Dr Smith graduated MB BS (Melb) in 1961, and was resident at Prince Henry's Hospital in 1962/63. He was appointed as Demonstrator in Anatomy at Monash in 1964, Lecturer in 1965, and Senior Lecturer in 1967. (He was also Deputy Warden of Deakin Hall during this period until 1969.) In August 1983, Dr Smith was appointed to the Chair of Psychological Medicine at Prince Henry's Hospital, and remained in that position until his retirement in December 2004. The title of Emeritus Professor was conferred on him in retirement. Professor Smith's contributions to the profession of psychiatry and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists was recognised in the award of the RANZCP Medal of Honour in 2004. Graeme Smith died on 1 February 2023.
