The committee's terms of reference as at 2001 were:
To make recommendations to the Equal Opportunity Committee on the development and adoption of policies, revision to policies and strategies on student equity, in particular to recommend strategies for mainstreaming the planning, funding and implementation of equity programs in the University.
To ensure effective communication and understanding of the principles of the Equity Plan within the University's campuses in Australia and overseas, and to make clear Monash's commitment to equity in all facets of its operations.
To monitor the University's progress in implementing and achieving its equity objectives for students and advise where additional strategies are necessary.
To consider and report on any matters referred to the Subcommittee by the Equal Opportunity Committee.
