Series identifierMON79Series titleElizabeth Moulton Eggleston personal papersSeries descriptionThe personal papers of Dr Eggleston together with those of her father Sir Richard Eggleston, were transferred to Monash in two consignments in March and June 1991, by Sir Richard's daughter Mrs Suzanne James. The two collections had been roughly divided as the original consignment list shows, but in the absence of any apparent order the collections were separated and a new order imposed by the archivist. Box and item numbers from the original consignment list are included in the item descriptions.
Most of Dr Eggleston's papers were roughly sorted by Sir Richard after her death in 1976. His content notes on file covers and envelopes have been used as item titles. Files related to her thesis and other research and teaching matters were titled by Dr Eggleston herself while in use.
The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence and diaries. The diary collection is a comprehensive one dating from 1948 to 1976 and covering twenty eight years of Dr Eggleston's life. Also included are notebooks from her years at Tintern Grammar and Melbourne University, photographs and audio tapes. Most of the collection dates from between 1942-76, with several items from a small postcard collection dating back to the 1920s.Date range1923 - 1976Series typePersonal PapersLinear metreage1.8Extent (boxes)10Format, size, conditionfiles, notebooks, diaries, tapes, photographsKeywordsPersonal Records
