SERIES DETAILS
Series identifierMON245Series titleRecords related to research project: First Aid Treatment for SnakebiteSeries descriptionThe research project "First Aid Treatment for Snakebite" was undertaken in 1982 in the Department of Anatomy by Drs W. G. Straffon, R. L. Anker, and B. G. Cragg. As a result of the project certain volunteer subjects received "mock venom" containing amounts of radiation in excess of recommended doses. The Vice-Chancellor established a working party to enquire into the incident, to evaluate doses incurred by the volunteers and assess the possible consequences, and to propose procedures to avoid recurrence of the incident.
This series consists of all records associated with the research project including individual files on all volunteers and copies of all experimental data collected; reports of the researchers and the University Safety Officer; records of meetings and the final report of the working party; and copies of correspondence with volunteers and with the Health Commission of Victoria. Also included are records associated with FOI requests for information on the project and a video recording of television news coverage during July 1983.Date range1980 - 1983Series typeUniversity SeriesLinear metreage1.7Extent (boxes)5Format, size, conditionfiles, videoKeywordsClaytonExecutive Service
