Series identifierMON247Series titleRecord of seal booksSeries descriptionUse of the common seal is as directed by Statute 8.1 under the Monash University Act 1958. Under this statute the Registrar, and more recently the Comptroller, is authorised to affix the seal to statutes and regulations; to certificates issued "in respect of any degree or diploma or licence which has been conferred or granted by Council"; and to other documents as directed by Council. Other uses directed by Council have included such things as contracts, mortgages and bank transactions.
The first recorded use of the seal (ie. entry no.1 in Book 1) was in June 1960 although Council minutes document two previous uses in 1959.
