Hughes was Censor-in-Chief of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons [RACS] from 1969-73, Senior Vice-President in 1974 and President from 1975-78. The College is concerned with postgraduate education of the medical community and the maintenance of surgical standards within Australia and New Zealand. This series documents Sir Edward Hughes involvement with the RACS between 1960 and 1984.
The files relate to RACS administration and include minutes and agenda for various council minutes, both at a state and federal level. Annual RACS conventions and meetings (such as the General Scientific Meeting) are well represented in the series and these files consist mainly of correspondence which include thank-you notes, speech drafts, guest lists, invitations and travel arrangements.
Files relating to the RACS Road Trauma Committee include a number of publications and reports to government agencies.
