The majority of the series (20 tapes) consists of lectures of Professor Alec King (Second Chair in English department 1965-1969) recorded for his students, while he was suffering ill-health prior to retirement in 1969. Several other lectures were recorded by P. Naish in 1975, and a series of thirteen lectures were recorded on video cassettes in 1997. Videos include lectures by E. Barry, A. Dilnot, P. Ayres and P. Nestor . The remaining audio tapes consist of play readings by staff and students of the Department.
Other items included with the series are an interview with David Williamson; and recordings obtained from the ABC, including interviews with Tom Stoppard and a recording of Cantata Zoologica, composed by the departments Trevor Jones in 1963.
