The material includes correspondence, financial accounts, brochures and records related to Pierre Gorman's estate.
Pierre Patrick Gorman was born deaf, but eventually learnt to speak and could lip-read in French and English. He was the first born-deaf person to graduate from Melbourne University and the first deaf person to graduate with a PhD from Cambridge University. He was a lecturer/senior lecturer, then senior research fellow in Special Education in the Faculty of Education from 1972 until 1982. He had an Airedale terrier 'hearing-ear-dog' called Paul. He received a CBE in 1983 for 'services to the disabled'. Also in 1983, he established the Eugene Marthe & Pierre Gorman Foundation.
