The original membership was comprised of those professors who were members of the Victorian Universities and Schools Examinations Board. The committee met for the first time in February 1979 and for the last time in November 1988. Following a review of Professorial Board committees in 1988, the roles of both the Matriculation Committee and the Committee on Special Admissions were taken over by a newly constituted Admissions Committee.
